Challenge

We set ourselves the challenge of demystifying behavioural economics – making it accessible and relevant by showing how its principles are already being used across commercial and public sector organisations to solve problems and drive innovation.

    Outcomes

Our collaboration kicked off with Rory Sutherland delivering a TED-style talk for students, staff, and public attendees. The talk explored how businesses can succeed by tapping into behavioural science principles and the irrational and emotional sides of human decision-making.

We then ran a one-day workshop with Falmouth alumnus David Fanner for ten Cornwall-based businesses including Seasalt, Eden Project, and St. Austell Printing. The workshop enabled participants to develop a plan to solve a business problem guided by a behavioural economics framework.

The Ogilvy team also dropped into our Creative Advertising studios where students got the chance to pitch their responses to a live brief. Rory and David were very impressed by the students' work and put forward three winning ideas to their client.
